What is PBIS?
Wright Elementary is participating in an important initiative. It is called Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS).
What is Positive Behavior Interventions and Support? (PBIS)
PBIS includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for all students and all staff in all settings. Teachers use specific strategies to explain in detail the routines and procedures for a safe, orderly learning environment in which all students can learn and all teachers can teach.
We have adopted a unified set of school-wide rules and procedures for all areas in our school. These rules define our expectations for behavior. The teachers and staff have taught four principles to your child during these first few weeks of school:
C-Caring
U-Understanding
B-Behaving
S-Succeeding
As part of the research-based PBIS process, we do the following when teaching academics and
· Explicitly teach and refer to our school-wide expectations.
· Provide students with more praise than correction.
· Talk to students with respect using positive voice tone.
· Actively engage everyone in the class during instruction.
· Use pre-correcting, prompting, and redirecting as we teach.
· Look for the positive first and provide positive, immediate, frequent, and explicit feedback.
Classes receive Panda Pride points from staff members when the class is following the established expectations. These points will be traded in for whole class rewards.
